Neoral Drug Interactions

Neoral Drug Interactions Explained

The following sections explain in detail the potentially negative reactions that can occur when Neoral is combined with any of the drugs listed above.

ACE Inhibitors
Taking Neoral with an ACE inhibitor could increase your risk for kidney problems. This risk is highest in people who do not stay hydrated. Talk to your healthcare provider about how much fluid you should consume each day if you take these medicines together.

Aliskiren
Neoral can increase the amount of aliskiren in your blood, possibly increasing your risk for side effects. These medicines should not be taken together.

Allopurinol
Allopurinol may increase the level of Neoral in your blood, potentially increasing your risk for Neoral side effects. Do not take these medicines together without first talking to your healthcare provider.

Certain Blood Pressure Medicines
Taking Neoral with an ACE inhibitor could increase your risk for kidney problems, especially if you are dehydrated. Taking Neoral with a calcium channel blocker may increase blood levels of both Neoral and the calcium channel blocker. Therefore, talk with your healthcare provider before taking Neoral with an ACE inhibitor or calcium channel blocker medication.

Colchicine
Combining Neoral with colchicine can increase the amount of colchicine in your body, increasing your risk for potentially serious colchicine side effects. Talk to your healthcare provider before taking these medicines together, as you may need a lower colchicine dosage.

CYP 3A4 Inducer Medications
The liver breaks down Neoral using enzymes known as CYP 3A4 enzymes. Some medications known as CYP 3A4 inducers can increase the activity of these enzymes. Combining Neoral with one of these CYP 3A4 inducers may decrease the level of Neoral in your body, potentially making it less effective. Your healthcare provider may need to monitor you more closely if you take Neoral with a CYP 3A4 inducer.
