Myfortic Side Effects

Constipation, diarrhea, and nausea are some of the most commonly reported side effects with Myfortic. In most cases, reactions such as these are mild and generally easy to treat. However, notify your healthcare provider immediately if you develop potentially serious problems, such as painful urination; sores that do not heal; or black, tarry stools.

An Introduction to Myfortic Side Effects

Just like any immunosuppressant medicine, Myfortic® (mycophenolate sodium) can cause side effects, some of which can be quite serious. Although not everyone who takes the drug will have problems, many people will experience some type of adverse reaction during treatment.
(This article covers many, but not all, of the possible side effects with Myfortic. Your healthcare provider can discuss a more complete list with you.)

Common Side Effects With Myfortic

Myfortic has been studied thoroughly in clinical trials. In these studies, the side effects that occurred in a group of people taking Myfortic were documented and then compared to those that occurred in a similar group of people taking another anti-rejection medicine. As a result, it was possible to see what side effects occurred, how often they appeared, and how they compared to the group taking the other medicine.
In these studies, common Myfortic side effects included:
  • Constipation -- in up to 38 percent of people
  • Nausea -- up to 29.1 percent
