Kidneys Home > Omontys Uses

How Does It Work?

Omontys belongs to a group of medications known as erythropoiesis-stimulating agents (ESAs). It works by stimulating the production of red blood cells by the bone marrow.

Is It Safe for Children to Use Omontys?

This medication is not approved for use in children (usually defined as people younger than 18 years old), as it has not yet been adequately studied in this age group. Talk to your healthcare provider about the benefits and risks of using Omontys in children.

Off-Label Uses for Omontys

On occasion, a healthcare provider may recommend this medicine for something other than the treatment of anemia in people on dialysis for chronic kidney disease. This is called an "off-label" use. Using Omontys to treat anemia due to any other cause, or in people not on dialysis, would be off-label uses.
