Omontys Medication Information

A healthcare provider may prescribe Omontys® (peginesatide) to help increase the production of red blood cells in adults who have a certain type of anemia. Specifically, this drug is approved for use when the anemia is caused by chronic kidney disease and only when the person is also undergoing dialysis.

This medicine is administered into a vein (intravenous, or IV, infusion) or just under the skin (subcutaneously) every four weeks. While many people tolerate it well, some people may experience side effects, such as diarrhea, nausea, and shortness of breath.

Although it may be an effective treatment, not everyone can use this medication. Information on Omontys should be discussed with your healthcare provider before receiving this drug to help avoid potential complications. For example, you may not be able to use it if you have high blood pressure, cancer, or heart disease.
